While relaxin' on the beach in Cuba, the resort I was staying at kept playing this track by CandyMan called, Represent Cuba, and I fell in love with it!!

It def. gets stuck in your head after a couple plays - Enjoy!!

Sound: Prince composes a theme for the circus and its played back on a distorted VCR.

Why Listen?? 1. The song sports a disgustingly cool Todd Rundgren sample 2. Like almost all of my showcases, the music boats a pretty original sound. 3. Its nostalgic music... and it seems everyone (in one form or another) is into ‘vintage’ these days.

This is actually one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in a while!!

It’s very random and should make you laugh - The song is catchy at first but like an incompetent pleb who calls someone a fruit cup, it fades like a terminal with a horrible disease.

The catchy chorus drives this song but the Canadian indie-pop duo keeps me interested with their marvelous voices!!

Tegan and Sara are famous for their onstage wit; any person who has witnessed a live show knows all about their commentary. The two have toured with the likes of: Neil Young, The Killers, and Rufus W - I expect more mainstream success in the near future!!

Jokes aside, ‘Look Ka Py Py’ is one of the greatest funk albums of all time. The Meters have influenced all kinds of works through the years, and are known as an influential ancestor to the genre!!

MUSIC SHOWCASE: MONSTERS OF FOLK...

The thing with ‘super groups’ (bands whose performers are already famous) is that they usually don’t last very long - On the other hand, the music they produce is some of the best the business has ever seen... Examples: Travelling Wilburys, Blind Faith, Audioslave, and Velvet Revolver.

Monsters of Folk is no exception to the rule, the band delivers exactly what you ‘Bright Eyes’ or ‘My Morning Jacket’ fans have come to expect. Toss in a hint of ‘She & Him’ and you have a masterful album that permeates your body with the aroma of genuine quality music!!

I highly commend those attending tonight’s show at Massey (in Toronto)... If you don’t have a ticket yet, hit up Craigslist cause it’s been sold out for weeks!!

MUSIC SHOWCASE: DIRTY PROJECTORS...

At the Rothbury Music Festival this past summer, we asked Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) if he could play with any contemporary band, whom would he choose. He thought for a second and answered: Dirty Projectors!!

After listening to Rise Above, I now know why... You hear things from the voice you would of never thought possible. Do yourself a favour and pick up a pair of tickets for their upcoming show in Toronto (Nov 14 @ Opera House).

MUSIC SHOWCASE: D'ANGELO...

Every so often I’m approached and asked about which albums I like best for the bedroom... Here is my opinion: The music needs to have a little soul and you can’t go near the infamous classics i.e. Barry White and Marvin Gaye are cliché.

Thankfully, for your benefit and mine, there’s D’angelo’s ‘Voodoo’ album... It doesn't disappoint!!

Guitarist Johnny Marr (these days he plays with Modest Mouse) practically invented the ‘indie’ guitar and Morrissey’s the king of Mod. If you think you’re a hipster and you don’t know The Smiths... I’ll go out on a limb and state that the facts: You’re not!!

MUSIC SHOWCASE: BLIND FAITH...

I know I usually throw an indie band up here on Monday’s but I decided to change things up. I appreciate the oldies as much as I do the newbies.

Blind Faith was one of the first ever ‘super-groups’ to formulate. When the likes of Eric Clapton and Stevie Winwood joined forces because they were having problems in their respective bands... They caught the attention of a few fans.

After a year of touring the boys dissolved to work on other projects, never to be heard from again. I would of liked to hear more of this kind of music!!

MUSIC SHOWCASE: PETE & THE PIRATES...

The English indie-rockers out of Reading are a force to reckon with - Their debut album has drawn some pretty high praise… NME described the music as, "perfect pop without the pretence".

If you ask me, these guys stole their guitar riffs from The Edge (U2) and vocal swagger from Brandon Flowers (The Killers)... Regardless, it’s a catchy tune!

You know a band is hard when they distribute their music by throwing copies of their CD’s into the audience at live shows - Winter Gloves is a synth-pop group who make trendy music that works these days. Its fun to listen to, and it makes you feel good!!

The band has garnered recent success... their album was supported by tours with ‘Tokyo Police Club’, ‘Thunderheist’ and ‘You Say Party! We Say Die!’ The band has also thrown down at the ‘Virgin Festival’, ‘Osheaga Festival’ and ‘SXSW’.

MUSIC SHOWCASE: THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC...

I don’t fully understand the video. Two of the three clowns are vicious bullies and one is very depressed... Regardless, the song itself holds an anemic beginning but progresses into quite the tune with a killer chorus.

The new album just dropped, and is definitely worth a good listen, as is everything on the Arts and Crafts Label these days!!
